Old Joe Cain Tour
January 27 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm CST
$35.00This engaging morning walking tour tells the story of Mobile’s most mystical figure: Joseph Stillwell Cain. Join us on a fun walking tour while we unravel History from myth, and get the true facts about the patron Saint of Mobile’s Mardi Gras. The tour begins and ends at Mo’Bay Beignets, where guests can indulge in sugary beignets while your tour guide tells the story of pre-Civil War carnival. Next we walk to the historic fire hall were Joe Cain and his fellow firefighters reinvented Mobile Mardi Gras after the Civil War. We will see the Creole Fire Hall where the Excelsior Band was born, and the Church Street Graveyard where Joe Cain is buried and where Joe Cain Day begins in the Sunday before Mardi Gras Day. The tour also includes Church Street East, parts of the parade route, and the historic Kennedy Mansion home, which is the den of one of the most spectacular of Mobile’s parading societies. Guests will take home the Mardi Gras trivia game to test their knowledge!
